I had several, they all smelled different and there was a violet one. They didnt taste soapy to me. ANYONE ELSE REMEMBER THESE? I just stumbled on this site freaking awesome!!!! Since then, Ive never seen it again. Ive had the C Howards & theyre the next best thing to what im talking about. The scent of violets must be somewhere in my memory. It reminds me of these little tiny candies that were pink, green and purple in a package the size of a deck of cards that were sold in Sun Drugstores when I was a kid. For a while Mashti himself was slipping me a special ginger, cardamom and saffron ice cream until they discontinued it. They also have rose and orange. I just love the Violet Chowards, and traiditonal Neccos, which are much more easier to find than the Chowards Candy(Universal Hollywood Sparkys Swell Stuff has it on the Citywalk. It came in bulk & she always brought me about 1/2 lb in a white candy bag. heres a picture of itbut this one doesnt have the crystalized violet atop it. When I was 10 or so, after I got paid from my paper route, Id race to the local stationary store in Brightwaters,Long Island,NY and purchase an OMNI magazine and a few packages of C.Howards VIOLETS.Id head to the park and munch mints and read for hours.Thats about the only thing in my crappy childhood that is nice to remember.I was telling my friend about this candy just last week (we were talking about flowers in food), and today,I went to the smoke shop to buy discount cigarettes and there on the counter was one single package of VIOLETS in an empty carton.Purchased for only 60 cents I feel pretty good about things.They do have a little soapy aftertaste,but nothing to cry about.Compared to those Flavigny violets pastilles going for $2.75 per package online (thats nuts), I feel like I stole them,lol.My 11 yr old daughter gets home from summer recreation in two hours.Id like her to try them.Hope theres some left! Ive been looking online for retro candy stores but no luck. i tried and tried to stop craving for them, but no success, its so bad that in the last 3 years i gain at least 40lbs, and had gastric bypass!, damn i got to atleast slow down, what the hell is in these mints! Well, this gum is the same way, I quickly grew to love it, and it is by a far margin my favorite gum. Chowards gum has the exact same taste and when I tried it a few months ago, it took me back in time. I cannot fathom people thinking these mints are edible. Theyre sweet and very hard (like a piece of soft shale) are the color of the putty I used to caulk my shower and smell like something I might use in the shower while Im there. Please tell me where in Los Angeles you found it?!!! I am a violet candy addict and as such have tried just about every brand imaginable.
