My mother and I are local to New
My mother and I are local to Newport and during the week they offer a discount to residents for services. We were first greeted by Dave, the valet attendant, who made us feel welcomed. See images attached. We asked the front desk if this was going to go on all weekend and they said "no, you shouldn't hear anything over the weekend".
A nice location right in the center of the bay. Amazing food there and nice people. Very old hotel. He is so sweet and accommodating. After the third check in with the front desk, we were finally given a room that we paid for (although it partially faces the parking lot and did not come with any bath facilities, as is described in the room description we purchased). Decent rooms but I felt that the hotel let itself down with the service in the restaurants. What really set this place apart for me was the service. The chowder was good with the Tabasco sauce. As for the pool, theres no organization. Beautiful resort with lots of wonderful views of Newport. Easy to walk to town and restaurants. The well situated, spaced, and graded outdoor patio seating is decently enclosed with individual spacious igloo tents that both young and mature seem to coo with a request to fairytale dine. They completely missed the mark and didnt pay attention to the form they requested him to complete that specified the delivery to be between 8-9pm so when we got back from dinner, I would see the flowers, chocolates and Mot where he would then propose. He was so disappointed and crushed. We went to dinner at the hotel restaurant which requires early reservation, the atmosphere is great and the service is good but the food is not. The rooms are very nice with good views. I'm willing to change review if hotel reaches out. Food was decent but not great for how pricey it is. We walked through the hotel lobby and outdoor igloos to get to the rink. Very close to the center plenty of shops, cafe etc. Fitness center is old, small, and has little air flow (felt humidadd some fans / air conditioning!) I had a party of 16 and was given one fire pit table to share. We are sorry is their stock answer for all problems. Too bad the food, host staff and cleanliness wasn't on par with the view. Perfect! Andrew, the host, was also very kind. The ceiling bath vent was disgusting and needs to be cleaned and they parched the ceiling and only painted to the shower area and just stopped. The room was clean but the hallways were not vacuumed and during our stay it did not seem at all busy. Weve stayed here for the last few years. I loved how professional they were and they were very helpful and understandable!! The prices for peak season are even more outrageous. We had a hiccup at check in, Amira handled it flawlessly and made any wrong a right! The most beautiful scenery, it seemed as if you're in Ocho Rios Jamaica. We truly think this is the best place to stay in Newport because it has so much charm being on goat island. Great place to stay or visit. We loved the resort. This hotel did not make us feel welcomed in any stage of our staying and the restaurant was overpriced and not that good. There is new money now-days, they need to make sure their plugged in. You get what you expect for the price for a resort on the water. I would love to give this place a 5 star review but unfortunately it wasnt what I booked online. Positive attitudes. So far, it's amazing!!! The sauce was smeared (not nicely placed) over a boring looking plate suitable for a school cafeteria (see picture). and a turn off. Huge disappointment. Nice views and great bar. LP World Travel. Then when I got to my room it was super small and you cant open the windows which I hate. We went for dinner in Newport, and returned to settle the kids in for a movie. At the end of land surrounded by water Has its own light thouse, outside patio with firepits. (No, there was not a do not disturb sign on the door.) Beautiful seaside north eastern resort and restaurant. Poor service. Shame on you Gurney's for being so greedy. The waiter was very knowledgeable. We had a great time. Inside bar: crowded but drinks and waitstaff good. Terrible customer service. Stopped in to see the Ravers and support them. Beautiful views, great service. Thanks Stephanie for being part of an enjoyable afternoon. When confronted with the idea of taking a name for a reservation so when a seat opens he says during this day and age we cant do a list and contact people. The door was dented, the carpets were cheap, overall the room design was ugly - very different from whats advertised on the website. Theres hardly ever a pool attendant, always have to ask for them and find out where they are to get a towel. This ruined our experience and we wont be staying at Gurneys when we come back. The view of the Newport bridge and the vast blue background added tranquility to our evening while the magic inside the igloo was simply amazing. I found a live child in my salad and the manager had to come and throw him away and get me a new salad. We had the worst food service of anywhere we visited in Newport though. Ate at the pineapple on Sunday night. But when every employee at every level tells you why you arent getting good service, it makes the vacation that everyone looks forward to just not as fun. Great views and staff. A/C wasnt working and engineer came and removed the most filthy filter. But Ive stayed at many resorts for half that price and are nicer ! They were able to accommodate several large breakfast reservations as well as a very large group that came the night before out by the firepitseven though we didn't give them the full number. HORRIBLE MANAGMENT OF THE FACILITY!!!! We decided to have dessert at the lounge and ordered the Apple Tatin Napoleon to share. Our server visited once to take our food and drink order and we didn't see him again for an hour. Enjoying the Great View of the boats. The staff was great the rooms are a bit dated but you aren't going there to stay in the rooms. Great location, wonderful staff, stunning views, Had drinks at the bar, great vibe.
The risotto paired with chicken was delicious. Atendimento excelente.Muito confortvel. Always solid and a great escape even off season. We had a 9:00 reservation and they were in a big rush to get us out. I will find other accommodations when visiting the area. I complained and was moved to a room from 1936. The reduced block rate for our rooms was roughly $289.00, totaling over $350.00 per room, per night, inclusive of fees, with a 2-night minimum. COVID regulations in place, totally understandable, but that means many services arent being offered. PSthere was a hair in our drinks. There's a lighthouse, hammocks, adirondack chairs, goat house, pool with cocktail servers, outdoor bar with fire pits, and outdoor restaurant right by the pool. Beautiful establishment, went for wedding, the staff was awesome. However, it rained the two following days and it proved this place is definitely not worth the price if weather is subpar. Its not as far as I had thought before. You need bartenders at your pool bar that can serve ppl that is used to efficient service. Helpful, nice and accommodating. Not sure how crowded it gets or if its hard to get pool chairs etc in the summer. Even after a fresh resurfacing, my wife who competitively figure skated in the past left after a few laps because most people were struggling to skate on it. I was furious but the staff was careless and basically ignore us. Good food, good drinks trendy atmosphere, worth the trip. Ridiculously priced drinks. View was beautiful place was clean everyone was friendly and I will be back. This is quite alarming given whats going on. Definitely try their desserts. Their gym can hardly accommodate 5 people. My husband hurt his thumb when attempting to open and I also cracked my nail. 4. We and our guests encountered myriad plumbing and drainage problems in our rooms; my sons luggage, tuxedo and rehearsal dinner suit were sent to the wrong room following his arrival, causing us to be late to the rehearsal dinner; and, adding insult to injury, on New Years morning, we and our guests waited nearly two hours for our meals before being asked why we were still sitting there, as our food order had been cancelled. They were doing renovations on the property while we were there, but our room was unaffected, and the common areas had already been completed. The hotel, pool, restaurants, and service is all very good. I was just there to eat at scarpettis which was absolutely amazing, Great place to enjoy a nice drink or dinner, Very good , is perfect i love it this place. Cant get your room cleaned while you leave your dog in the room (since you couldnt bring him with you anywhere). I assumed we were all set and called when we arrived in Newport one more time to confirm. When you are on vacation it gets pretty old to hear how overworked they are. Wonderful hotel right on the water. We realized that if you push the door outward it will disengage from the pin and you can escape, but needless to say broken door which is really a huge hazard. The lobster roll here is the best I ate in the Newport area and one of the best anywhere. I definitely recommend this resort. 2. I really enjoyed the food, drinks and beautiful view but the customer service could have been a better! Amazing staff and service. Was not made aware of this until we got up to the room, even though the hotel knew this was going on. This wouldn't have been a big deal except they limit the reservation time to 1.5 hours and have no qualms of kicking you out even if you just received a beverage you've been waiting 40 minutes for. Kohl at the front desk and Scott from the bar were both professional and friendly!
On the last night after complaining of the lack of hotel service we were accommodated for dining at the restaurant. We loved Gurney's for the ice skating. From the staff to the amenities, the ambience to the view, our stay was perfect in every way. #FamilyLifeWTR great couple get away place. The kicker to all this, my mother in law surprised us with a welcome gift of cookies and champagne which wasnt received until the end of the night after her scathing email and complaints. So many warming stations outside and pods for gathering to view the bridge. We called again. The Bed was extremely soft however the pillows were awful. But I would do it again just to eat at Showfish again. The service was prompt and friendly, but the food was very disappointing. Walked in the room to a view of the ugly roof and AC unit? Stayed at a cabana for the afternoon. Gaming area with cornhole and ladder golf. The prices of drinks way too high. I was in town to empty out my Grandmother's house after her funeral. Make sure you check the weather before booking because at $500 + a night your better off at another spot. But we took the east walk to town for dinner and walked back. Good on site restaurants (Scarpetta) are the only thing going for this property. A quaint lighthouse adds to the charm. Called room service at 11am to order some toast and I tried 3 times and had no answer. Worst place ever stayed at. And, per our daughter 'exceptional hot chocolate.' Food was very fresh and mostly healthy selections. Do yourself a favor. I would recommend a hotel closer to the center of town, as having to take a shuttle proved to be a drawback to the location. I had taken the seawater spa massage for 50 minutes and Mikaela (hope I have spelled the name correctly) gave a really good massage, which was relaxing. So many places around with better food and more affordable pricing. We had lunch at the Pineapple when visiting Newport. Extremely friendly and courteous staff. Rooms were nice and beds comfortable. There needs to be better noise control to avoid rowdy guests coming back to their rooms after midnight and not taking other guests into consideration. I highly recommend Megan and Gurney's for working diligently to provide a custom, professional experience for your party. Overall if it rains there is NOTHING Gurneys has to offer. Food was good. Overall feel is a bad 70's slightly worn Reno. This hotel is in a great location and the views are great if you get a king with a balcony. Great atmosphere and all around amazing restaurant! Second time visit the place, still adore the magnificent view from the dinning deck facing the bridge. Service left something to be desired, was more befitting of a standard chain hotel rather than a luxury resort. The host apologized and offered to sit us, it was too late for us, we did not want to get breakfast at the hotel restaurant.
I love the atmosphere are Gurney's my husband and I love to go there in the evening to have a bite of food and a drink over the weekend! I just don't like to pay for something I am not getting. Its exclusive and feels worth the money as you walk through the hotel. The facilities at the resort were comfortable. My only disappointment was the lack of updating needed for this hotel to maintain a 4-star rating. The food was good but the menu was smaller than expected, the rooms were very underwhelming, but I imagine the views and the amenities are why people stay here. I typically do not write negative reviews. A very fancy place. She explained that shes been trying but nobody answers and the guy gave her an attitude. It was poorly groomed (alot of slushy pits to manuever around) It was kind of small and very crouded. The elevators are tiny and scuffed up. I appreciate the location away form downtown Newport yet with easy access via the bridge walking or the courtesy vans. Ar livre.Contato com a natureza. Nice atmosphere. I tried ordering at 6:30am - maybe that was too early in the morning. ???? I would recommend that the hotel update them.
Messy dirty igloo. Only complaint is that the walls are incredibly thin, so you hear every sound from accompanying rooms while in your own room at night. Great drinks. I would recommend staying here, but the exterior of the property does need a little updating. So awesome. The food was excellent, try the angry lobster. The fish was well seasoned and crispy. The outside seating, bar, etc is really nice with a great view and a couple live goats but the food is not worth the price. You can do better, Gurneys! Seemed underprepared. The service was honestly horrendous and laughable especially for such a touted destination. This place romantic We will never come back to this hotel and recommend that you choose a different hotel if you plan on coming to Newport Rhode island. The rooms do not look like the pictures on their website. It's a most see! The room was nice and with a great view, but there were alot of very noisy families with young children running wild yelling in the halls. Descent king room with a balcony was told we'd have a room on the 6th floor. Loved every bit of it. The pillows and bed were amazing. The balcony from our room was the highlight of our stay, especially when it was snowing in the morning. Lost power for two hours. If you are true foodie, you have to experience it.
They wouldn't even offer anything similar either which was disappointing. There were also old drinks still out on the balcony from the people before us And the bath tub was clogged. I was disappointed in my experience here, especially when paying $1,100 a night.
Amazing weekend getaway . The place where Gurney's fails to meet expectations is its staff.
Good experience except for the bed bug bites. Ever. Or room overlooked the water at sunset and it was beautiful. I got married last weekend at next-door Belle Mer, but we booked a suite at Gurney's for the long weekend and to act as the bridal party suite on wedding day. Beautiful place with the most humble people ever. When we go to the lobby, we found construction workers laying carpet in the hallways. The indoor pool was standard and I don't recall seeing any seating by it. If you can afford it, this is a terrific place to stay when you're in Newport. Takes 10 mins tops! You need a reservation for everything and everything is booked. Later the day some guy was forcing himself into our room saying he worked with the hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are very narrow. And 20 mins after receiving our entrees, our server informed us that it was last call and that everything was closing shortly. Had a relaxing time during the weekday. Impressive community organization with National Grid during the recent state of emergency regarding natural gas. I thought I was going on a peaceful vacation. I had one of the best lunches here, everything was fresh and portion was perfect, I recommend the wedge salad with chicken!!! Lunch was delightful and service was superb!! Thank you Charles. The room was spotless and had everything a person could ask for in a hotel. Great atmosphere. It was horrible, my husband and I left our car top open and we had things stolen from our car. Covid has destroyed Newport. The pool/deck area was well done. The spa, bar, and pool are all fantastic. I told them to check it again because there should not be any problems. For what, I'm not sure?!?!?! Friendly staff. The rooms are comfortable, just wish my first experience could have been better. Geezus! People are allowed to save their (unreserved and unpaid for) spot at the pool for hours until they come back, yet the people who are also paying guests are left to fend for themselves without a seat, then on top of that the manager asked us to leave before anyone else because of Covid capacity simply because we didnt have a seat. We had an Amazing experience. No closet in room just and open area to hang clothes. Although the menu is limited, it is excellent and well appointed. In my opinion- too costly for what you get, specially in off-season. I got the very last available Mandarin Smoothie Wrap (normally $130, but $50 during Spa Week), which they say always books up quickly. The service is bad, the prices are high, the pool is mediocre, people were hammered drunk throwing up and cursing like maniacs while the staff watched entertained making me have to stop playing with my daughter in the pool, several ants in the room, the kids club is one person on a cabana sitting there (no club), and we paid extra for a room with a jet tub but the jets dont work in the tub. We dined in for dinner. Have to co-sign the 'overpriced, under-delivered' sentiment in other comments. Much nicer places to stay for this type of cost - do your research! It was amazing weekend. Great restaurant. She made us feel like royalty the entire weekend of our wedding. The shower had a curtain as opposed to a closed off section. The bride had a beautiful fur tube to slip over her shoulders. Whoever is the Chief Operating Manager should be fired. It's clear food and drinks are just phoned in as an expensive add on while the resort banks on business for the location and views.
The massage was wonderful but the amenities were terrible. The food is terrific the service and staff helpful. Also, there is a resort fee of $35 that seems an unnecessary way to get a few more dollars out of a customer already paying c. $500 a night (Management, this is not very classy). Very nice staff and a great place for a wedding. The pool is a zoo. The overall feel is a darker more ghostlike space with privacy to meander between activity zones. I attended a professional event at Gurney's and although it was rainy and the hotel is still under construction, the service and accommodations were top notch. Standard king room (small, nothing fancy).
Do NOT even think about taking your car..NO parking whatsoever. You can hear people going to bathroom from the room lol We rented an igloo and had drinks. The proximity to Downtown was perfect, we were never more than 5 minutes away from where we wanted to go. Thats not what a manager should do. First night there we ordered chicken fingers and fries for my 2 year old, to get chicken that was rare in the middle. Convenient location on Goat Island. Dave offered to introduce us to Chef Jackson. The charm is gone. Enjoy. THANK GOD they had some clocks on the wall telling me what time it was in Palm Springs, Memphis, and some other random city so I could get my business done. Needless to say, we were careful about touching the surfaces. I stayed at this resort when it was a Hyatt me and my husband fell in love with Newport so the following year I booked a week to stay there again, it was still a Hyatt and I got a pretty good deal since I am a Hyatt employee in a different state, the Hyatt sold and I got an email form the GM that stated we can no longer accommodate you for the stay at the resort due to the fact that it is not a Hyatt anymore I thought that was BS I didn't even get 2 days out of the week that I booked. Walls within the room offer little privacy while in the bathroom, so this seems like an overall flaw of the hotel. Hotel in general The pool was nice. Worse customer service ever!!! The valet staff was some of the best. The staff was all really nice , Id give them a 5, but the actual accommodations are run down , dirty , and not well kept . After addressing issues with hotel staff, all issues resolved and treated like royalty. We arrived well ahead of our reservation. Others were comped one night stay for the inconvenience.
