Also one evening in the Italian at the Oceania in 2015, a guest at a nearby table knocked over their wine pedestal, smashing a bottle of red wine with the resulting explosion showering my wife and staining her lovely new summer dress. WAS a problem for my wife in 2016 at the Olivia. On both holidays we took watershoes and made good use of them, if only to avoid burning our feet on the very hot sand! It was nice. A little stony but still nice. Provence is probably the most sophisticated of the bunch with the renowned brothersJacques & Laurent Pourceloverseeing a Med-inspired menu bursting with flavour: think 'Steamed Mussels', 'Pea Gazpacho', Sea Bass with Bean Puree and Bouillabaise, Creamy Orzo Pasta with Pumpkin and Ricotta and Fig Tart with Yoghurt Ice Cream. The beach is nice but not the best. On both occasions there were just a small handful of people staying at the hotel from the flight, so no mass queues as we have experienced at other hotels. I think two things affected it firstly it was much hotter this year (although it was very warn in 2015), and secondly we spent quite a bit of time in the evening at the Helios bar which is in the open air by the beach, or at restaurants in the open air and often overlooking the beach. and you do have to be careful going all inclusive.however we all thought the dining was great, and a very reasonable wine selection (for all inclusive).Would we return? When we wanted to be poolside we headed for the lagoon pool and it was excellent. They will however call a golf-buggy for you from the Beach Bar.The Ikos Olivia is on a very flat site. At the Oceania in 2015 we had to go up to a desk near reception on the first morning after arrival to book which speciality restaurants we wanted.

East Midlands is a nice smaller airport with easy access off the M1. Starters here are the star of the show, with a choice of Spicy Tom Yum Soup, Gyoza, Tuna Poki Salad and Deep Fried Chiu Yim Squid making it difficult to select just one dish to kick-start your meal (youll want it all). As well as tennis and squash courts, there is a beach club with watersports, volleyball, sailing and pedalos. DRINK/BARS:Oceania: We usually went to the main bar in the evening. I should mention there is coral at both beaches. We couldnt get in anywhere for the first 2 nights, but booked the rest in one go.

In addition to international wines there are a number of Greek wines on offer and I would encourage anyone to try them as there are some excellent ones to be found. There is a single entertainment team that work between the Oceania and Olivia on alternate nights performing the same set of shows. All great - we liked the Asian one the best. TRAVEL DETAILS:My wife and I and out 17 year old daughter stayed at the Ikos Oceania from 29th June to 13th July 2015. French:Oceania This was the ground floor of a small 2 storey building, the First Floor of which was the Asian restaurant. Thats the way we like it :-) The evening:The theatre at the Oceania is indoors on the same floor as reception/main bar/Helios bar. Excellent selection of cocktails, wine and spirits at both. Overall, surroundings are design-orientatedand seductive and even when the hotel is full, it is one of the places where it never feels like it is. We went for a week in June with two kids almost 4 and almost 1. I understand there for 2016 the Russians are under pressure not to use Turkey as a holiday destination (thats what happens went you shoot down a Russian plane! The rooms were cleaned well every day and they would restock the mini bar too. The food served at all of the restaurants, even Flavours, was super fresh and delicious. Banks of wardrobes give tons of storage space and are super-practical for family stays (meaning all clothes can be hung up and clutter stored away). No one goes around shouting for you to join in and all but the water polo takes place in locations away from the main areas (i.e. The weather was 35 degrees every day and no rain. Can we hard to get loungers so go early. With daily football, table tennis, a kids club and babysitters on tap, you'll suddenly find the rare opportunity to read again, or to simply lay in the sun and do nothing (oh, and if you dont have little ones in tow, you can escape the bedlam by heading to the beautifully scenic and peaceful adults-only pool).

Consequently its a more compact site. We walked through the Deluxe area and in my opinion their pool and bar offered nothing more of any value than we already had and Im glad we didnt pay extra for it. We couldnt book in anywhere that first night, but managed to book the rest of the entire 14 night stay in one go (no getting up early every day to queue! They spoke to them like they were something they had trodden in. Chasing the dream: I write about travel and the world around me. The spa offers a heated pool, steam and sauna and a comprehensive range of Anne Semonin treatments for those me, me, me moments. The airport was very quiet and it didnt take long to go through passport control, retrieve the luggage and make our way out to the transfer coach (via the Rep at the airport entrance to tell you which coach number).The transfer coach in 2015 dropped us off as the second stop after about 45 minutes. The main buffet is gorgeous, with lots of choice.

The theatre at the Olivia is an outdoor arena in the far north-west corner of the resort by the sports facility. BEACH:What can I say! Whilst waiting for the golf buggy we noticed other dining guests wearing beach flip flops and other shoes less casual than my husbands.. Fortunately the golf buggy never arrived. Its the one aspect that I think could be improved on in terms of the all inclusive experience as we have been to a number of Caribbean resorts where the watersports are more or less all included in the price. So, its no surprise, given the success of both resorts whichfollow the sameethos,that the Ikos group is already planning two further properties. Lastly, comes Fusco the eponymous restaurant headed up by Roman chef Andrea Fusco. It's not cheap, but it's brilliant.

OUTBOUND TRIP: Every member of staff is polite and friendly. We had a couple of glasses of wine and ate some nice snack food (all in the price) while sitting on some comfy seats. At the Oceania I would recommend getting to the small infinity pool (by the French) earlier to be certain as there are only a few sun loungers there. The beach and sea at both locations is gorgeous! and less-than-average buffet meals galore. From being met at the airport by one of the hotel cars (all seemed to be Mercedes) to being dropped off by the same car type, they really do their best to do EVERYTHING for you. Transfer back to the airport was accompanied by a Thomson-Frst Choice rep in 2015 from the Oceania, but was unaccompanied (i.e. Consequently there is not a show every night. They have free pedals and kayaks which were good fun with the kids. There is also an adult area here. It is more prevalent at the Oceania where they have created an underwater boarded pathway over the coral that takes you to the sand bank that sits after it. There was a large safe in the wardrobe (free), a good TV (not that we watched it), and really comfortable beds/mattresses with good quality pillows. On both occasions we flew on a Monday afternoon flight from East Midlands, with a Monday evening return flight.OUTBOUND TRIP:All went smoothly on both occasions. The staff were so good and handled it really well and eventually they left. All went smoothly on both occasions. Having been spoilt with our boutique hotel experience at the Oceania, we were a little disappointed with the location, or at least we were on our first evening visit as our table overlooked the door out from reception to the main pool! at the sports facility, etc).

You can also have room service, which is prompt.The bars are good and they only serve branded alcohol, even in your mini bar. I enjoyed the lunch time offerings so much that I ordered the same dish three days in a row!Everything was still super spotless and you really didn't have to leave the resort. The Helios bar is on the same floor a little nearer to the Theatre and so from that perspective didnt offer anything much different. The Helious bar was located over by (and overlooking) the beach, next to the French, and so offered something quite different to the main bar. The selection and quality of food was excellent.Olivia - This was located right on the beach front and you could choose to sit outside looking over the ocean or inside in the AC. You can book it 24 hours before due check-out and is subject to availability. Anaya, meanwhile, has an imaginative Asian-inspired menu and has the most atmospheric dining room, with moody slate-grey and burnt-orange colours, low lighting and banquette seating.

The resort is definitely designed for families. I actually took a small 4 socket extension strip on a short lead in 2016 to the Olivia, but need not have bothered as there were 2 spare sockets on one side of the bed and 3 on the other (although I cant say what was available in the building in the main building).Conversely I would highlight that we found the Air Conditioning in the bungalow at the Olivia in 2016 not cold enough. We went for a week in April as a family of 5 (3 boys - 13,12,9).Accommodation was fine (new, clean, good amenities), and the AstroTurf football pitch meant the boys were happy (playing football all day)Whilst I wouldn't say everything was perfect (and we are incredibly fussy !) The Asian was only open as an a-la-carte restaurant in the evening and we went there a few times. As its short-haul there is no meal andThere are many fantastic reviews about both these hotels, so rather than just add more of the same I thought I would do a comparison of the two as we have been to both now on successive summer holidays in 2015 and 2016. The good news is that doesnt that mean style has been skimped on: dcor is crisp and elegant with pretty bedside chandeliers, smart velvet headboards and luxurious bedlinens all tied together with a subtle Aegean blue and white palette throughout (echoing the classic colours of Greece) and light-drenched spaces. We only ate breakfast there once as it was on the other side of the resort from us (the main buffet and Greek being closer) and we never had lunch there for the same reason. Over the past couple of years, however, theres been a 'quiet' revolution taking place, and just like how the cruise industry has reinvigorated itself and shaken off its pensioner profile things are looking up for the sector, witha few noted luxury hotels rejuvenating what it means to be an all-inclusive. There are many fantastic reviews about both these hotels, so rather than just add more of the same I thought I would do a comparison of the two as we have been to both now on successive summer holidays in 2015 and 2016. Seriously, you don't have to move a muscle here. The a la carte menu offered during the day at Provence was a massive hit. It was a great evening, but it did mean we missed out on having another special Greek a-la-carte meal (and we were too near the end of the holiday by then to change anything else). There is less of it at the Olivia and more easily navigated. It will probablybe fully-booked before you know it. POOLS:Oceania: The main pool was nice and was an infinity pool. Is It Better To Lease Or Buy A Car In Summer 2022? At the Olivia in 2016 we upgraded to a double bungalow (for 2) in the grounds. Room service is of course 24/7 RESORT LAYOUT:Whilst many of the features of the two hotels are comparable, they are distinctly different in their layout.

Service on all occasions was first rate. The food was very good, with an excellent choice of wine to accompany Asian food.Olivia Is a purpose-built stand-alone building in the north-east corner of the resort, just up from the French and main pool. Bathrooms, meanwhile, are luxurious with double sinks, rain showers and Anne Semonin toiletries. Again the food was very good, with an excellent choice of wine.Greek:Oceania Was located close to the main pool and up from the beach via a steepish flight of steps. In the evening it kicked into its a-la-carte mode and we had some very lovely, high quality meals.Italian:Oceania Was located high up in the main building, accessed via the main buffet restaurant. We ate breakfast/lunch there a few times and it was very comparable to the French in terms of selection/quality (i.e. They have motor waterspouts like jet skis but we couldn't do that..this time. Nespresso coffee machines with pods were also provided. With a focus on fine dining, the hotels Infinite Lifestyle all-inclusive concept comes into its own across the four la carte restaurants, which all offermenus designed by Michelin-starred chefs, stylish dining rooms and slick service. On both occasions we flew on a Monday afternoon flight from East Midlands, with a Monday evening return flight. However I would like to say a special thank you to the following: Thanos (tennis coach), Thanos (sports centre), Stefan & Elana (Provence), Georgios (Provence & Anaya) and Andrei (Main Pool/Teatro).Despite such an amazing holiday there is always room for further improvements and the following is my list of niggles which I hope will be reviewed by the resort's management:Check-in: The check-in service last year was much more personal and similar to the check in service at Porto Sani Resort. Its perhaps no surprise then that the Olivia is a tadge more expensive than the Oceania.ROOM:At the Oceania in 2015 we had a junior suite (for 3) located on the second floor in the block nearest the beach, so we had excellent ocean views. One of the stylish suites at Ikos Oceania. Dirk was great, and listened to guest feedback and acted on it, which is really important - he certainly has his finger on the pulseI'm sure this place will go from strength to strength.The staff make this place; all happy to be there, and keen to ensure everything goes well.

It was nice. The part of the building overlooking the lagoon pool contained the pool-side bar and swim-up bar. Blue sky thinking: the beach at Ikos Oceania. I understand they may now have put a direct-access lift in to this restaurant now, perhaps to make it feel a little bit more high quality and not an annex of the main buffet.

We were met by the driver with a much needed bottle of water and were whisked off to the hotel.

If you have children, this is the place where holidays become more about happy and less about 'hassle'. The beach is served by staff from the beach bar located next to the Greek on the watersports side, and also by staff working out of the main buffet restaurant (for that side of the beach). Their is not a long trouser policy for men. The main pool near the main hotel was more quiet. We compared the lowest prices from 9 websites, We compared the lowest prices from 13 websites, We compared the lowest prices from 12 websites, We compared the lowest prices from 14 websites. At the Olivia in 2016 we had a couple of very windy days and on one in particular they were forced to close the parasols on the beach and by the pool, which of course led to my fair-skinned wife needing to make a dash for shade! The staff are so attentive and must walk miles every day around the pools, beach, restaurants etc serving you so you don't have to move or stop what you are doing. You need to book when you arrive - they are so busy although eating early (one year old) made it more accessible.

Now, we travelled as a couple so I'm going to address the kids gripe that a lot of people have mentioned.

In 2015 at the Oceania we hired a car and the three of us did a tour round Sithonia (the middle of the three fingers of the Halkidiki peninsula). It is clean and not once did I see a single piece of litter, they seem to groom it every day. We ordered a selection of food from off the room service menu and sat there with our own mezze and Greek wine/mini bar and had a lovely afternoon!
